After much deliberation, I have in fact decided to hold a contest! It actually will be a FINAL FANTASY themed contest, in tribute to the Distant Worlds world tour I attended on March 1st here in Chicago.

The Prize:

A Distant Worlds CD personally autographed by Arnie Roth (conductor) and Nobuo Uematsu (composer) when I met with them after the show. I had them autograph 2 Distant Worlds CD inserts. One is for me, one is for YOU!

The Rules:

1. The goal is to draw a COMEDY and/or SPOOF of one of the -games-. You may take any scene, situation, personality trait, etc/whatever you want to do, and do a PARODY of it. You can do any length or size submission you like, whether it's one-shot image, or a mini comic. It's up to you.

Because this contest is based on a JOKE and NOT TECHNIQUE, you could probably get by with any calibur of technical artwork. That means even if you don't consider yourself a great artist, you can STILL WIN if your IDEA is good enough! This contest is open for EVERYONE of EVERY calibur of art. This is a test of your imagination, not your skill level! Please, however, do make an attempt to do a good piece. I will compare your submission with the rest of your gallery to see if it's up to par with your usual effort.

2. You are limited to ONE (1) submission. If it's long, please contain it within one deviation. If it's short, all the better for you : )

3. The artwork must feature a Final Fantasy game in which Uematsu composed the main soundtrack. In other words: your entry must theme ANY Final Fantasy from 1 - 10. You MAY also include FF7 Crisis Core (be aware most non-Japanese have not played it yet), since the music of the game is remixed Uematsu work.

4. You MAY NOT do Kingdom Hearts, FF Tactics, FFX-2, FFXI, or FFXII. Uematsu only composed one song each for 11 and 12. All the rest were never touched by Uematsu (this is a tribute to -HIM-, remember) (if there are any songs in them by him, I don't even know about them because they're so few/scarce), so DON'T do them. Also DONT DO ADVENT CHILDREN. Advent Children was a MOVIE. This contest is spoofing one of the -GAMES-

5. The characters MUST be in costume! No cheating by drawing T-shirts, bathing suits, scanty clothes, the nude, or underwear (unless it's canon, or absolutely relevant to the scene you are spoofing. I can think of several instances of FF7, for example, when it is canon. -NO COSTA DEL SOL-). You don't necessarily have to do all humans. Feel free to use any characters, even summons and Cactuars, etc. if need be.

6. Be careful about FF crossovers. They might not be as funny as you think. If you want to do a crossover, however, go ahead. I have not seen any crossover yet that has gotten me to laugh. Maybe you can be the first to do so. I don't recommend trying unless your idea is truly stellar.

7. Please keep the jokes clean. There are kids on DA, so no penis jokes, k? And if you feel the piece needs a "mature" filter at all, then it's probably going to be disqualified. However, if you can imagine the scene being in the video game itself and being presentable to the crowd, or if you are spoofing the mere concept -of- the sex/penis joke, then it's passable.

8. This contest is open for EVERYONE, ANYWHERE around the world. It is open for ANY DA member. You dont even have to be a watcher! Please encourage others to join in on the contest. The more submissions, the more you guys will get to laugh at. And this CD needs a home!

9. Only submissions AFTER March 6th, 2008 will be admitted into the contest.

Judging:

This is DEMOCRATIC voting, open to the public. When I hold contests, I have an voting POINT system. Everyone who votes gets FIVE POINTS to distribute to your favorite pieces with a MAXIMUM of 3 points given to your favorite piece. In other words, you MUST vote for at least TWO. If you have one favorite, you can give your 3 points to that and distribute 2 points to other pieces. (In other words, you have the option of dividing your points 3-2, 3-1-1, 2-2-1, 2-1-1-1, and 1-1-1-1-1). I will keep a tally of how many points each submission gets. This is a fair voting system, just in case someone popular comes along, and everyone wants to vote for him/her because of the association with their favorite artist. It gives someone else/ the underdog the opportunity to wrack up points as well.

I MEAN IT about the Maximum-of-3-points rule. IF YOU VOTE with 4 or 5 points distributed to one piece, I will NOT count your vote until you change it to the proper voting format!

DEADLINE:

APRIL 2nd, 2008. It's a Wednesday. (if I say April 1st, you'll think it's a joke.)

Because I'm a nice person, I'll accept late submissions up unti April 7th, which is a Monday, but ONLY IF you mail and/or note me by APRIL 2nd to tell me you need the extension. If I don't receive any notes from anyone telling me to extend the deadline to the 7th for them, then the voting process will begin on April 2nd as planned, and go on for the next several days.

YES, THERE IS A CONSOLATION PRIZE:

---EVERYONE--- who enters my contest will receive a digital ripped Distant Worlds CD which I'm storing online (83 megs of awesome music). If by the time you enter the contest, you have already downloaded the Distant Worlds CD via torrent or linkage from a friend, then good for you! I'll offer you a new link to the CD anyway : P So even if you don't win the hard copy of the CD (worth $20 before signatures!), you still get to listen to the beautiful music just for submitting!

One last note: Your pieces don't necessarily have to be in color, but just know that DA in general tends to favor colored pieces. If you feel your coloring skills may adversely affect your presentation of the piece, then feel free to keep it black and white. Classic black/white and/or grayscale is always beautiful too!
